    Furries on "Know Your Meme"
The website "Know Your Meme" is a excellent site to find out about how an internet meme starts and grows.

It also has a subsection about furries. Most of the information is old hat, but I think does a decent job of explaining the the fandom without exploiting it. Some may not like the art, photos and video they chose as samples.

Here's a section about "Yiff In Hell"..

And for those new to the fandom who missed this one...

Woyro's Warren 99---Furry Panel at Astronomicon
last weekend i was part of a sf convention in Rochester, NY called Astronomicon. i was asked by the con chair if i'd like to do a panel on Furry. i said yes.

this week's show is mainly the recording of that panel. we had a great turn-out and we got a lot of positive responses to our presentation. having Jadaira crash the panel in his fursuit didnt hurt either!

the show is posted at http://www.woyroswarren.mevio.com

and at divshare. use this like for episode 99: http://www.divshare.com/download/9353757-e36

thanks for listening to the show.

now, i'm heading for Midwest Fur Fest. hope to see you there.

    Meep. Show your solidarity
Sample of article seen below from
    http://theodoramichaels.com/articles/meep.php

    You know what to do!

    ............................................................

Perhaps by now you've read some of the articles (and associated entertaining comments, such as those at Fark) about how Principal Murray has tried to ban his students from saying meep.

It's been a long time since I was in high school, but I still remember what it was like to be young, and chafing under what seemed like arbitrary and capricious rules set down by school authorities.

So in solidarity with the students of Danvers High, and on my own initiative, I took about five seconds and sent an email to Principal Thomas Murray ( murray@danvers.org ), Assistant Principal Mark Strout ( strout@danvers.org ), Assistant Principal Cornelia Varoudakis ( cvaroudakis@danvers.org ), and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lisa Dana ( dana@danvers.org ). All of these addresses are publicly available on the Danvers High School website.

My subject line said (in full), "meep." The body said (in full), "Meep."

Yesterday I received a reply email from Assistant Principal Mark Strout, which said (in full) "Your E-mail has been forwarded to the Danvers Police Department."

LOLwut? That simultaneously annoyed and amused me enough to write this article. (Plus, my train was late.)

    (snip for brevity)

Gee, I'm scared -- maybe the Danvers police will come to NYC to arrest me! I guess they'll also try to extradite people who (I'm guessing) sent emails from other countries. We can be charged with . . . what, first degree meeping? Yeah, good luck with that.

    "2012" Avenges "The Fallen"
How could I pass up the chance to go see the premier of a disaster movie on Friday, the 13th?

After pretty-much writing-off the summer crop of so-called blockbusters, I was fascinated enough about the new /disastocalypic/ flick "2012" to finally pay real money to go to a theater to see a movie again since the last time I went to see--endure--the sunflare-juiced dystopic disco-industrial Moorlock-piping Enterprise of "Star Trek: the Blunder Years"

Finally, a reason to go back to the theater: a movie that you need to see on the big screen to appreciate the effort put into it; not only into the massive f/x, but something Michael Bay forgot to put into his "Transformers: Revenge of the Hormones": HEART. Not just heart as in sentimental aww-geez moments (and there are some, but tastefully done for a change), but putting some depth into the characters involved--all of them--good and bad, for they all have a reason to be there and be how and why they are, with chances to redeem themselves--and some do.

That's what sets "2012" several cuts above "Transformers": both have a high ka-boomage quotient, but while Bay's Ferris-Bueller-in-Disguise flick was washed through the George Lucas Love Story Amid the Blasters Script Primer, Roland Emerich actually bothered to put forth more effort than he probably needed to in order to make his characters at least as interesting as the catastrophes around them. He proves you can actually have a disaster flick, and have some drama mixed in (and even some subtle humor) and make it work without the blatant pandering to the pre-mid-post-adolescent cinematic clientele. Between Michael Bay and J.J. Abrahms ("Star Trek") they have both lowered the standard of big-budget action films to the lowest common denominators of pretty, vapid, faces (and other body parts), slo-mo exhibitionism, flashy effects, and cartoon stereotypes (whether they be Biker Romulans or Shuck-and-Jive hip-bots). Easy money? Maybe, but here comes Roland Emerich to raise that bar back up a few notches and make an intelligent disaster flick with some real feelings and characters you can identify with. Are you watching, Mike & Jeff?

Sure, the pseudo-science involved is laughable and the close-calls make all the Indiana Jones movies seem like documentaries, but this is a fun and loud ka-pow of a movie; what Transformers could and should have been sans the sappy post-teen emo and gratuitous voyeurism. Yeah, those make money too and that's sad, but at least someone's willing to make a movie that will surely make it to those heights and eshew the easy eye-candy road to get there.

So go see it, but be prepared, some of the scenes of disaster are disturbingly real and human. While the gore-factor is fairly low, you see so many people on their way to their doom and know they are going there and how they are going there. There are amazing and intense images in this movie reminiscent the brief, intense end of Krypton in 1979's "Superman: The Movie" (awesomely done for its time). Some old enough to remember the disaster epics of the last 30 years may get some of the brief little visual inside-jokes thrown in just for us--err--them. Something for everyone and a lot of hasta la vista, baby. (hint-hint and watch carefully).

Four flaps out of five (minus one for some predicable and cliche plot points, but they don't get in the way of the fun).

Feeling a bit more human. Still can't talk but I'm no longer in pain when I do speak.

A while back, I bought a set of pajamas at Wal-Fart. The tag on the outside of the clothes said "2X" - my size. Well, yes and no. Yes, in that I could wear them... but no, not my size. See, thing is, I am (or so I thought) a 22-24, which is a "2X" most places. The PJs are 2X meaning 18-20... and I could still wear them. OK. The buttons on the top are pulling apart in the boobalogical area but the bottoms fit and so did the shirt below the breasts. Holy Shit! The only problem besides the too big o' boobs is that, well, they are quite ugly. I had to get them, though. Despite the fact that they are neon green with red lettering, well, dammit! They have KERMIT the Frog on them! *Squeezey hug for Kermit!* So, though I may not have lost weight, I must have somewhere... or the company sewed in the wrong tags.

Work was worky. Please to be skipping to avoid work related bitching )

I purchased a subscription to two humor magazines: Funny Times (it's more of a newspaper) and Mental Floss. I found the FT through a kind coworker who left her/his edition in the breakroom. It has comic strips as well as humorous writing featured in it. Mental Floss is an unknown. I read bits on the website occasionally but I've never read their magazine. I hope that it is as good as the web. Plus, when I'm finished with them, I can leave them in the breakroom, too!

Yes, that is me "singing" there. I had to do that because I didn't know the name of the song (well, other than that "annoying Pina Colada" song). Here is it's actual title and a bit more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_(Rupert_Holmes_song)
To quote the Wiki: Also on Mystery Science Theater 3000, during one of the host segments of Show #421 (Monster A Go-Go), Joel Robinson and the robots discuss the deeper meaning surrounding the song and critique the couple: "They don't even know each other likes piña coladas?! What, would they always panic and order Manhattans or something?"

    MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
Now, how many of you have the song in your head?

    Even found a parallell-port version.

Some where around the dream about being on tour with Dr. Demento and Weird Al, I woke up. Yeah. Drugs are good for you.

Went to work. Stupid. Should have stayed in bed. I'm extremely tired. I also cannot talk much due to the throat still being raw. I did manage to make it through the night without screwing anything up. Also, did all the testing. Really sick people were coming in. Several cardiac patients (one who had a troponin level of 27!!!! normal is 0.034 at the high end of normal) and one who had post-op bleeding.

I needed comfort food. Stopped at the grocery store along the way home. Came home to make green beans, potatoes and ham. :9 Also bought myself some chocolate milk and one Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie. I would totally screw Little Debbie just to get free oatmeal cream pies. Seriously. The snack cake was 75 cents - these things used to only cost 25 cents! And this thing was huge! I'm talking the size of a Big Mac, ok, maybe not that big but it took me a while to eat it. I don't think I'll eat again until next week. Ugh.

So, yeah, I still feel like hell. I hope that this penicillin kicks this stuff out soon, though. I'm tired of feeling so crappy.

I am keeping this account active because I want to save the user name, but I'm really gone from this for good. There was no other reason other than I grew tired of this form of communication. You can send me an email directly, call me on the phone, send me a DA note, talk to me in person.

Most of you know how to find me. For the most part I will be at Deviant Art.

    See ya'll around.
